Gentle Colors with When Power divine, in mortal form and Wait, my soul, upon the Lord

When Power divine, in mortal form,
Hushed with a word the raging storm,
In soothing accents Jesus said,
“Lo! it is I; be not afraid.”

So when in silence nature sleeps,
And lonely watch the mourner keeps,
One thought shall every pang remove,-
Trust, feeble man, thy Maker’s love.

God calms the tumult and the storm;
He rules the seraph and the worm:
No creature is by him forgot
Of those who know, or know him not.

And when the last dread hour is come,
And shuddering nature waits her doom,
This voice shall wake the pious dead,
“Lo! it is I; be not afraid.”

Sir J. E. Smith
Wait, my soul, upon the Lord,
  To His gracious promise flee,
Laying hold upon His word,
  “As thy days thy strength shall be.”

If the sorrows of thy case
  Seem peculiar still to thee,
God has promised needful grace:
  “As thy days thy strength shall be.”

Days of trial, days of grief,
  In succession thou mayst see;
This is still thy sweet relief:
  “As thy days thy strength shall be.”

Rock of Ages, I’m secure,
  With Thy promise, full and free,
Faithful, positive, and sure,
  “As thy days thy strength shall be.”

W. F. Lloyd
